Both the girl’s and boy’s school records fell as the Lakewood Middle School cross country teams competed at the Panther Invitational at Pickerington North on Saturday.
The girl’s team placed 13th in the large and highly competitive meet. Rachel Meadows broke the school record that she set at the end of last season in leading the Lady Lancers. Her time of 12:39 on the flat and fast two mile course was sixteen seconds faster than the previous record. She was a medalist. Addy Pound was the second Lakewood finisher, and moved up to number four on the list of the all-time fastest LMS female cross country runners. Landry Driskel, Leigha Davis, and Ally Johnson completed the scoring for the team. Seven of the ten ladies ran their personal-best times at this meet.
The boy’s team took 11th place, led by Jon Holbrook’s school record run of 11:05. This is the third time that Jon has broken and reset the record this season. He was the fourth individual finisher of the 181 competitors, and was a medalist. Aidan Bowman broke through the twelve minute barrier to be the second Lancer to cross the line; his time was 11:58. Seventh-graders Ryan Byers, Andrew Pletcher, and Caleb Rafferty were the other scorers for the boy’s squad.
